Help with setup, sign-in, and everything else
What do I need before signing in?
Matron is a remote control for a coding agent on your own computer, and it is self-hosted by design — your conversations and files stay on infrastructure you control. Two things need to exist before the app shows anything:
- A Matron journal server that you run — this relays sessions to your devices.
- An agent (Claude Code or Codex) running on your machine and connected to that server.
If you’re joining the beta, your invite comes with setup instructions for both.
I signed in but see no chats
The app is working — there’s just nothing to show yet. Chats appear once an agent session connects to your journal server. Check that the agent-side bridge is running on your computer and pointed at the same server you signed into.
Push notifications aren’t arriving
- Check the app has notification permission in system Settings.
- Notifications are sent by your journal server, and delivering them to Apple devices requires Apple push credentials. Support for self-hosted servers is still being rolled out — if notifications matter to your setup, mention it when you get in touch.
- Force-quitting the app can delay wakes; try sending a message from the agent side and waiting a few seconds.
How do I delete my account and data?
Your account and conversations live on your own journal server, so they’re already entirely under your control — delete them there, and delete the app to clear the local cache. We hold nothing on our side.
